Feminism In The Bible

Feminism In The Bible

Not everyone abides by these teachings of the bible; some may and some may not, that is up to them. However, the question is , if religion is not providing the essentials to ones human’s rights, why follow it?

"It is a disgrace to be the father of an undisciplined son, and the birth of a daughter is a loss."  (NRSV, Sirach 22:3)

"The shame of a father is of a son unlearned; but a fond daughter shall be in decreasing of the honour of father and mother. " (WYC, Sirach 22:3)

Not only is this considered misogynistic.

Human rights are an essential to human survival. The Charter of United Nations, the international bill of human rights, the universal declaration of humans rights are documentations from the past that have been established to organise human behaviour. Many religious scriptures have also been revealed in the past that express the importance of human rights and the importance of protecting our rights as well as others. However, there have been documentations in the past that have influenced individuals to act otherwise, to be coercive against one another, violating essentials of human rights, such as the Bible. In the recent millennia, the topic of women’s human rights has had an uproar in our society.

According to The New Testament which many resort to, it states the following:

"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression." (1 Timothy 2:11-14)

It reads that they should not even teach. But to be in silence with all subjection. That how they are all to blame for Adam being deceived from the early beginnings. This kind of behaviour is what has lead to the oppression of women throughout the early beginnings of their existence. This brute-like and narrow minded logic will only created chaos and disaster. Not only that, but it is also insensitive even for a God such as Jesus.

Christians, in order to adapt to "modern" day principles may assert "This was the knowledge of old, women are now advanced and they have different rights."

However, this verse is not indicating the knowledge of the previous civilizations. It was an order to them from their Lord and saviour. A law that should be carried through from generation to generation. An explicitly described rule. These women are our mothers, sisters and wives. They are not one to be blamed for the sins of Eve. Not only is it unfair but it is also Unbiblical !

– “The person who sins is the one who will pass away. The child will not be punished for the parent’s sins, and the parent will not be punished for the child’s sins. Righteous people will be rewarded for their own righteous behavior, and wicked people will be punished for their own wickedness.” (Ezekiel 18:20)

– “Fathers shall not (pass away)  because of their children, nor shall children be (pass away)  because of their fathers. Each one shall (pass away) for his own sin.” (Deuteronomy 24:16)

– “But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.”  ( Jeremiah 31:30)

It is ironic how The Biblical scripture manages to contradict the alleged beginning of mankind. Therefore, their argument about women attaining a lower rank of their counterparts due to Eve's mistake is a baseless objection.

In Conclusion:

Many individuals have realised the past lack of inclusiveness, which can be seen from scripters in the Bible. In biblical literature, women…(Are a loss - Sirach 22:3)
