Moonlight Is Not Reflected?
Moonlight Is Not Reflected?
Genesis 1:16 states that the sun and
moon are both great independent sources of lights.
“God made two great lights--the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.” (Genesis 1:16)
“God made two great lights--the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.” (Genesis 1:16)
Give praise to him, you sun and
moon: give praise to him, all you stars of light. (Psalms 148:3)
"But immediately after the
tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON
WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the
powers of the heavens will be shaken. (Matthew 24:29)
Proverbs 13:9 also uses the word מָאוֹר for the self-generating light of the lamp. (1) The sun has its own independent light source whereas the moon
is just reflective. Sunlight is a portion of the electromagnetic
radiation given off by the Sun, in particular infrared, visible, and
ultraviolet light. (2)
The photosphere emits light radiates because
of its high temperature. All hot substances radiate light, either the visible
kind or beyond the rainbow spectrum.(3)
Moonlight is
the light that reaches Earth from the Moon,
consisting mostly of sunlight, with some starlight and earthlight reflected from those portions of its surface which the Sun's
light strikes. The light coming from the
Moon is just an illusion. When astronauts walked on the surface, they reported
that it was dark grey, the color of pavement. Because of its dark color and
bumpy surface, it only reflects about 12% of the light that hits it.
Additionally, the amount of light we get from the Moon depends on the point of
its orbit. (4)
Starlight is
the light emitted
by stars. (5) It typically refers to visible electromagnetic
radiation from stars other than the Sun observable from Earth during the night time although a component of starlight is observable from the
Earth during the daytime. The intense pressure
and temperature at the core of a star allow nuclear fusion reactions to take
place. This is where atoms of hydrogen are fused into atoms of helium (through
several stages). This reaction releases an enormous amount of energy in the
form of gamma rays. These gamma rays are trapped inside the star, and they push
outward against the gravitational contraction of the star. (6)
Yet the bible describes them as two great lights. Christians
will argue that the strength and weakness of the light is directly subject to
our vision. However the Hebrew word used is מָאוֹר which is the light of a lamp that is
self-generating and has also been used as light for the stars in Pslam 148:3.
It has failed to distinguish the difference hence the bible describing them as
two lamp lights which give off their own individual source. (7)
The verse Matthew 24:29 itself is additional evidence to further suggest that The
Biblical texts declare that the Moon emits its own light. Christians often
resort to that was The Old Testament argument, therefore we will extract more
verses from it. The following reads:
For the stars of heaven and their
constellations Will not flash forth their light; The sun will be dark when it
rises And the moon will not shed its light. (Isaiah
13:10)
"No longer will you have the sun for light by day, Nor for brightness will the moon give you light;” (Isaiah 60:19-20)
According to the
Oxford Dictionary, shed is defined as: Cast or give off (light) (8)
In Conclusion:
The Bible
undeniably states that every celestial body within our solar system and beyond
are all self-emitting lights, explicitly including the moon. Which is
scientifically absurd.
